The Silence Between

“Silence is not an absence of sound, but the presence of awareness before thought arises.”

Modern life trains the mind to mistake silence for an empty container that must immediately be filled. We rush from observation to evaluation, and from stimulation to response, fearing the void that exists between two actions.

Yet it is in that brief gap—before the judgment takes shape and before the voice in the mind names what it sees—that pure perception rests. When we allow that gap to widen, decisions stop being reactive habits and become conscious movements.
